This common phrase is great to use when creating your own planter combinations! We have compiled some of our favorites in each category, for both full sun and full shade! Keep in mind, there are different varieties of the same plant. So, for example, you will see I have Licorice Vine in both the Spillers and Fillers Categories. This is because there is a trailing variety and an upright variety of the same plant...and so on. Also, this is what we interpret each category to mean:
Spiller: A trailing plant. Whether it blooms or is just a foliage plant, it will hang down over the side of your planter nonetheless.
Filler: A bushy or compact growing plant. Not necessarily the star of the show, but a great splash of color or texture.
Thriller: A bold, beautiful, centerpiece or show stopper. Typically the tallest plant in the arrangement, but not always.
